The theatrical code is considered as a way of representing German history in Uwe Timm's novel «Halbschatten». manifestations theatricality the chronotope, organization artistic discourse, and system images are studied. fragmentary nature composition realizes author's perception trauma, which opposed by search for integrity that arises at level image. action implicates image theater shadows. an allegory creative process, conclusion about polygenre historical metanovel substantiated.
